Cervical Cancer Screening Table:  Peru

The leading cause of cancer-related deaths of women in Peru (and many other areas of the developing world) is cervical cancer.  Early detection through Pap smears is critical to longevity, and CerviCusco is dedicated to providing cancer screening services for women in the vicinity of Cusco, Peru.  One of the challenges of providing exam services is that many clinics are at locations that do not have tables suitable for the procedure.  This design project aimed to produce a lightweight, back-packable exam table that could be taken to remote villages by the CerviCusco staff.  The final product weighed only 9 kg and has proven to be a valuable asset for doctors conducting screening examinations.
